A minor girl died and two people, including a police official, were injured in separate traffic accidents in parts of the city on Thursday.
The minor girl was killed when a water tanker ran her over in Bhains Colony within the limits of the Sukkan police station. A private welfare organisation reached the site and transported the casualty to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy where the girl was identified as eight-year-old Aresh, daughter of Irfan.
Police said the accident took place when the deceased girl was playing near her residence as the water tanker driver reversed. People of the area caught the driver of the water tanker and severely thrashed him before handing him over to the police.
Police have also impounded the tanker. A case has been registered while further investigations are under way. Separately, a man was seriously injured after a jeep overturned due to high speed and hit a battery and generator shop on Abul Hassan Ispahani road. The injured person was taken to a private hospital. Meanwhile, a police sub-inspector, identified as Arif Khan, was injured in a road accident in the Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan area. He was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
