Within a span of 12 days, a local leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday escaped a second attack on his life in the city.
In the latest attack, unidentified gunmen attacked local PTI leader Essa Khan near the Northern Bypass in the Gulshan-e-Maymar area but Khan and his driver luckily survived the attack.
Upon receiving the information, police reached the crime scene and inquired into the attack. The PTI leader told police that four suspects had come to attack him and they fired three shots at his car.
District West SSP Suhai Aziz told the media that an empty bullet shell had been seized from the crime scene. The PTI leader’s car and empty shell were sent to the forensic division of the Sindh police.
Police said the case was being investigated from different angles and they were also trying to find the connection between the recent and the first attacks. Twelve days earlier on June 16, Khan was attacked near Afghan Basti in Gulshan-e-Maymar. Unidentified armed assailants had attacked his car, killing his wife and wounding him.
His wife was shot once in the head, which proved fatal for her while Khan was shot twice in his arm. A six-month-old baby girl was also in the car who luckily remained unhurt. The attack had occurred when Khan with his wife and child were returning home after visiting a doctor.
