Multan Sultans’ victory in PSL: Cricket star Rizwan lauded for performance
NOWSHERA: Paying glowing tributes to cricket star Muhammad Rizwan, chief executive of Shama Cricket Club Sheikh Atif Rashid on Monday vowed to continue efforts to produce more outstanding cricketers to bring laurels for the country and nation.
“We are proud to have groomed Muhammad Rizwan like cricket talent in our club and we hope he would clinch more titles in future,” Sheikh Atif Rashid, who is also vice-chairman of International Multi-group of Companies and Associated industries Shama Ghee and Cooking Oil Mills, Nowshera, told a press conference after celebrating the victory of Multan Sultans HBL-PSL Championship.
Sheikh Nadeem Naeem, Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan and others were also present. It may be mentioned that Mohammad Rizwan performed well in the championship and brought victory for the Multan Sultans against Peshawar Zalmi in the final.
Atif Rashid said that Shama Cricket Club had produced many outstanding cricketers like Iftikhar Ahmad, Riffatullah Mohmand, Muhammad Ilyas, Adil Amin, Maaz Khan and others. He said that in December last year 2020, Rizwan was named as the captain of Pakistan’s Test side for the first match against New Zealand.
In the same tour, he said was also added to Pakistan’s T20 squad and later on, after Babar Azam injury, he captained the team against New Zealand. In the 3rd T20 of the series against New Zealand, Rizwan scored his career-best T20I score of 89 to give Pakistan a win and saved them from getting white-washed by New Zealand.
Rizwan has played first-class cricket since 2008 and Test cricket since 2016. He is a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper. He played for Lahore Qalandars from 2016 to 2017 in Pakistan Super League. He captains Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in domestic cricket. This time, he led the Multan Sultans team and won the PSL trophy.
