Muttahida Ulema Board endorses PM’s statement on ‘Hijab’
LAHORE: The Muttahida Ulema Board, Punjab, and leaderships of different religious and political organisations have endorsed Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement on ‘Hijab’ and women's clothing, saying the views are in accordance with the teachings of Quran and Sunnah.
The Ulema-Mashaikh of different religious groups and sects agreed upon that the teachings of Islam forbid both men and women from indecency and nudity by debarring them to use inappropriate cloaks or outfits. Addressing a press conference on Sunday at 'Seerat Center' of Muthahida Ulema Board office, Lahore, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council, Special Aide to Prime Minister on Religious Harmony and Middle East, said the critics of the prime minister are unaware of the teachings of Quran-o-Sunnah, saying that Islam has given honor and respect to women, and they have also been asked to wear ‘Hijab’, while the men have been told to keep their eyes down.
Speaking on the occasion, the religious scholars and leaders of different school of thoughts expressed their support for the government's refusal to provide airbases to the US and also endorsed Pakistan's Afghan policy, calling it representing the sentiments of the people. Tahir Ashrafi also stated that the peace committees are being expanded and fully activated for the establishment of law and order situation in the country during the month of Muharram-ul-Haram. He added that the prime minister and the chief minister of Punjab have issued instructions in this regard, saying the implementation of Evacuee Trust Property Act has been suspended.
The Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council said indecency and nudity are one of the reasons for men to be provoked that might lead to rape and molesting incidents. He said some psychopaths have sexually been targeting minors and women, and for that we needed to be vigilant, while all the abuse cases should be tried at special courts that should be asked to decide the case within three months to make sexual culprits an example in the society. He said Pakistan has been making sacrifices for peace in Afghanistan for the last 40 years, while Afghans are our brothers and peace in Afghanistan is directly proportional to peace in Pakistan.
