PESHAWAR: A windstorm hit the provincial capital followed by drizzle at isolated places on Sunday evening led to a major power breakdown in most parts of the city.
The windstorm uprooted several trees and damaged billboards. There was a brief rain in Hayatabad, areas on the Ring Road in Cantonment and the surrounding localities.
The city and other parts of the KP, especially the plain areas, had been in the grip of hot weather for many days. Such harsh was the weather conditions that the KP government had to close down the primary and secondary schools for some days keeping in view the sufferings of the students.
Though the weather pundits had predicted rains last week, the people continued to reel under the hot weather.
There was respite on Sunday as clouds hovered over the city in the afternoon which was followed by the windstorm and brief rain that broke the heat wave.
