SUKKUR: The recent outbreak of measles took two lives in Muhalla Usmanabad near Setharja in district Khairpur, while 10 others got hospitalised at the basic health centre.
Reports said two children, including four-year-old Kaveeta and three-year-old Jiya, were killed due to the measles attack and 10 other children were shifted to hospital after suffering from the disease. District Health Officer Khairpur Muhammad Hassan Abro said a medical team was sent to collect data from Setharja to find out if the victims had received anti-measles vaccines or not. Earlier, three children had died of measles in Jacobabad on Wednesday, bringing the death toll up to 46 in a month. Reports said a child Khan Muhammad Sheikh was killed by measles in the neighborhood of Thul city. In another incident, in village Haji Mehar Khan Shar in Jacobabad, Aasia, d/o Arbello Chachar, was killed by the same disease. Relatives of the infected victims claimed that the authorities have not been responding to the situation appropriately, as a large number of children have been infected with measles in the district, but no satisfactory measures have yet been taken. They demanded the authorities to take immediate action and devise measures to control the outbreak.
