Suspect involved in former MQM MPA’s killing arrested
The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a suspect allegedly involved in half-a-dozen cases of target killings, including the assassination of a former provincial assembly member belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi
Movement. The suspect has been identified as Obaidur Rehman, alias Capri.
His arrest was made in a raid conducted on a tip-off on Mirza Adam Khan Road in Lyari. The arresting team also claimed to have seized a hand grenade from his possession. The CTD police said that during the initial course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in around half-a-dozen cases of killings including that of MQM MPA Sajid Qureshi.
The suspect’s brother, namely Asim Capri, is also allegedly involved in a number of cases of terrorism and other crimes, including the murder of Qawwali mastero Amjad Sabri. He was also arrested by the CTD and is currently in jail.
The CTD explained that Rehman had earlier been imprisoned but after his release from jail, he rejoined his gang and was planning to carry out terror activities in the city, particularly target killings of important personalities. Further investigations are under way.
