Rescued bear cub learns to swim at temporary shelter in Margalla Hills
Islamabad : Twitter-famed Daboo, the orphaned black bear cub, is showing remarkable progress as he has learnt to swim soon after the construction of a swimming pool at its temporary shelter developed in the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP).
According to the details, the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has constructed a swimming pool in coordination with a non-government organization at the temporary shelter set up to help rehabilitate the black bear cub whose mother bear was killed by the poachers.
Initially, Daboo was hesitant to use the swimming pool but later he started taking bath amid hot weather conditions. In this process, he learnt how to swim within days and is now spending most of his time bathing in the swimming pool.
Daboo instantly became a social media ‘star’ when he was handed over to IWMB after being rescued by the poachers. His pictures and videos are regularly shared on social media and many foreign wildlife lovers passionately show their love for him.
An official of IWMB informed this correspondent that now they have planned to put fish in the pool that would help Daboo learn the art of catching fish from the water.
It is pertinent to mention here that Daboo has caught the attention of many local and foreign wildlife experts and conservationists who have been closely watching his progress at the temporary shelter set up by IWMB.
The official said Daboo is also developing wild instincts, that is really a very encouraging aspect and they hope that he would be fully able to survive in the open jungle in the coming months.
There is a team of staffers taking care of Daboo and according to them bears are predictable and if they learn more about them and properly interpret their behaviour, they would be able to react appropriately and avoid any negative encounter.
