A large number of volunteers took an oath for rendering their services to the Alkhidmat Foundation’s Disaster Management Cell in connection with the rain emergency looming large over Karachi ahead of the monsoon season.

The oath-taking ceremony was held by Alkhidmat at a local club here on Saturday.

Rangers Wing Commander Col Mosaver Abbas participated in the ceremony as a chief guest. Qazi Saddaruddin of Alkhidmat administered the oath.

The national anthem was sung and a documentary on Alkhidmat’s services for the society was played. Col Abbas was presented with an Alkhidmat cap.

On the occasion, equipment required for rain emergency operations were distributed among the relevant persons tasked with running 12 emergency centres across the city. The equipment include oxygen cylinders, long shoes, spray boxes, jackets, bags, boats and safety equipment and suction pumps.

Addressing the ceremony, Col Abbas hailed the role of Alkhidmat and thanked the organisation for taking the state institution onboard. He said that it was a matter of great satisfaction that Alkhidmat obtained the rescue and relief equipment in the light of the past experiences. He also congratulated Alkhidmat on maintaining a trained and experienced team for its services.

He also said that Rangers men would be working shoulder to shoulder with Alkhidmat’s volunteers at all the emergency camps setup by the welfare organisation.

Saifuddin Advocate, Naveed Ali Baig, Junaid Mukati, Dr Azeemuddin, and retired Major Abdul Wahid Ghouri also addressed the ceremony.

The speakers shed light in detail on the role and services of the Jamaat-e-Islami, the late Naimatullah Khan and Alkhidmat volunteers to provide some relief to the affected people.
