A man claimed that robbers looted cash and other valuables worth Rs10 million from his house in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
The complainant, Khalid Mehmood, registered a case at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station, saying that three robbers entered his bungalow in Gulshan-e-Iqbal’s Block 7 on Wednesday in the morning and held the family members hostage at gunpoint. The suspects ran away with 80 tolas of gold, 8,500 US dollars, Rs90,000, a laptop and a car.
The complainant told the police that one of the robbers was continuously taking to someone over the phone. The police said the incident took place on Wednesday, but Mehmood registered the case on Thursday.
General store robbed
Three robbers took away Rs2.5 million from a general store in New Karachi. The New Karachi Industrial Area police said the robbers riding on a motorcycle entered the shop and held the customers and the shopkeeper hostage at gunpoint.
The suspects then ran away with Rs2.5 million in cash, mobile phones and other valuables. A case has been registered while an investigation is underway.
Gold theft
A special police team has been formed to investigate the theft of 250 tola (3.125kg) of gold from a locker of a private bank branch in Karachi’s upmarket Clifton neighbourhood. The investigators have started recording the statements of the bank staff and the owner of the locker.
According to the initial findings of their investigation, the gold has not been stolen recently, so the police are also collecting CCTV camera footage going back some 18 months.
On Wednesday the Clifton police had registered FIR No. 293/21 on the complaint of Anita Qazi against the staff of the bank in the Zamzama area. Police said the locker had probably been cut with the help of an electrical cutter.
Officials said Anita’s family had reopened the locker after almost 18 months, adding that during this time the bank and its locker area had remained operational without any complaint.
The family told the police that some 250 tola worth of gold sets had been stolen from the locker, and that it was likely that the theft had occurred with the help of the bank staff.
Officials said that a similar incident had occurred at the same bank branch last year, when $100,000 (approximately Rs15 million) was stolen from a locker. They said FIR No. 248/20 had been registered then, and the case was being investigated by the Federal Investigation Agency.
