LAHORE: British Minister of State for South Asia Lord Tariq Ahmad and British High Commissioner Christian Turner have appreciated Pakistan’s role in maintaining peace.
During a meeting with Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Wednesday, they also acknowledged the steps taken by Pakistan to tackle COVID-19. Muhammad Sarwar discussed with them Pakistan-UK relations, Afghan peace process, war against terrorism, COVID-19 situation and other matters of common interest along with the issues of Kashmir and Palestine.
Lord Tariq and British high commissioner commended the steps taken by Pakistan to curb the spread of coronavirus pandemic. Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said that Pakistani Army and people had sacrificed more than 70,000 lives in the war against terrorism which was unparalleled.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan supports regional peace and stability and stands against terrorism. While urging the British authorities to play a more active role in resolving the issues of Kashmir and Palestine, he said resolution of these issues was essential for regional peace, adding that Pakistan had always played its part in regional stability. Pakistan has been playing its role in peace in Afghanistan since the beginning.
The Punjab governor appreciated the British support for Pakistan in the fields of education and health. There is no doubt that bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom had strengthened during the incumbent government and the visit of Lord Tariq Ahmad to Pakistan would further strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries.
British State Minister Lord Tariq Ahmad said that he hoped that Pak-UK relations would be strengthened with his visit. He said the United Kingdom would play its part in the prosperity of Pakistan as Pakistan was close to his heart. “We need to stand united against global challenges,” he stated. The British high commissioner said that the UK would extend cooperation in education, health and other sectors in Pakistan.
