LAHORE: An additional district and sessions court on Tuesday granted interim bail to three sons of former JUI-F leader Mufti Azizur Rehman, an accused of sexually abusing a madrasa student.
The police have accused Mufti’s sons Waseemur Rehman, Wassiur Rehman and another of threatening the victim at the behest of their father. The court granted bail to the accused till June 30 and directed the police to present the case record on the next hearing.
A day before, the court had handed over Mufti Aziz to the police on a four-day physical remand. It was claimed by the police that Mufti Aziz, former superintendent of the Jamia Manzoor Al-Islamia in Lahore Cantt, has confessed that a viral video featured him and it was stealthily filmed by his student. The cleric confessed that he had lured the student with passing marks in the exam and had later sexually abused him. He said that once the video went viral, he got scared of repercussions.
Aziz told the police that his sons had threatened the student and told him not to speak to anyone about it. However, despite the threats, the student went ahead and posted the video online.
