ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Tuesday termed the statement of Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) an attack on the Commission.
“The PPP fully supports legislation through parliament for transparent elections and no one would be allowed to issue ordinances and bulldoze bills illegally under the guise of legislation,” said PPP MNA Dr Nafisa Shah while commenting on the Fawad statement.
She said the ECP had exposed the attempts of an incompetent government to weaken the electoral system. “By making such statements, Fawad Chaudhry is trying to weaken the Election Commission,” she added.
Dr Nafisa said the ECP was an independent and constitutional body and the PPP stands with it.
She said that if the government had the intention to give the right to vote to overseas Pakistanis, the legislation would have been enacted in a transparent manner, instead of issuing ordinances in the darkness of the night. “Imran Khan has always kept an eye on the pockets of other Pakistanis and has used them for donations. “Imran Khan now wants to collect more money from them,” she alleged.
