SUKKUR/NAWABSHAH: In the backdrop of strict security measures taken by the Rangers and the police, local government elections in 14 districts of Sindh, including Khairpur, Ghotki, Nausharoferoze, Shaheed Benazirabad and Tando Allah Yar, were held peacefully on Wednesday.
According to unofficial results, PPP won the majority of seats in Benazirabad, Nausharoferoz and other cities.A clean sweep was scored by the candidates backed by Syed Ghous Ali Shah for the Union Council of Gharhi Mori in Khairpur. PPP candidate Babu Fazal Karim won at Ward No.23 in Khairpur.
Sindh United Party candidates won at Ward No.1, Ward No.2 and Ward No.3.Meanwhile, a large turnout of voters was witnessed in 43 wards of the Nawabshah Municipal Committee, nine wards of Daur Town Committee and three union councils.
Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari cast her first vote at the LBOD Colony polling station. She was accompanied by her sister, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari. Sisters of Asif Ali Zardari, MNA Dr Azra Fazal and Fouzia Zardari, also cast their votes at the same polling station.
Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari and Aseefa Bhutto Zardari had arrived in Nawabshah by air and they were escorted to the polling station under special protocol. Their motorcade comprised 20 vehicles, and they traveled under tight security. Their security staff did not even spare the media teams, pushing cameramen behind. Meanwhile, Rangers personnel snatched a weapon from a guard of MPA Muhammad Hussain.
