PESHAWAR: The Edwardes College Alumni Network has expressed concern over the alleged falling standards of education and poor state of administration at the prestigious educational institution and called for the appointment of a permanent principal to improve the situation.
The concern was voiced at the virtual meeting of the alumni body’s executive committee chaired by its President Syed Tehsin Shah, said a press release. The participants included Dr Gulzar Jalal, Muhammad Bilal Sethi, Muhammad Sohail, Syed Haider Jan, Faisal Noushad, Sajid Iqbal, Ali Kazmi and others.
The committee members were concerned over the complaints and dissatisfaction by the Edwardes College students over the alleged poor state of affairs of the education during the last few years where they were not provided proper furnished classrooms and other teaching facilities.
They demanded the government to look into issues faced by the students and take tangible steps to have them resolved, thereby stemming the falling standards of education at the college.
The alumni body members recalled that despite the clear directions by the courts, the appointment of a permanent principal was still pending due to which the institution was failing to maintain high standards of education it was known for in the past. The participants unanimously asked the government to appoint a permanent principal for the college.
They said the present acting principal, who had retired from the same college almost two decades ago, was too old to work. Syed Tehsin Shah said that during their time, the focus of college management used to be students and their education but unfortunately now both were being paid no heed.
The alumni network president requested Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Edwardes College, KP Governor Shah Farman, and Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Higher Education, Kamran Khan Bangash -- himself an Edwardian -- to convene a meeting of the board and appoint a permanent principal to the college at the earliest after advertising the post
