The director general of the Federal Investigation Agency, Sanaullah Abbasi, visited the FIA Zonal Office Sindh on Saturday and took a briefing from his subordinates.
The spokesman for the FIA Sindh said the additional DG of the FIA South Zone gave him a presentation on the working of the South Zone, which includes Sindh Zone-I and II as well as Balochistan.
He was briefed about the inquiries and investigations being carried out. There are 2,292 inquiries under process and 358 cases under investigation in South Zone.
The DG FIA issued instructions to complete the inquiries and investigations on merit. He was briefed on cases under trial in different courts and convictions obtained in cases relating to money-laundering, Hundi/Hawala and corrupt practices in public sector organisations.
Amounts totalling Rs2,216 million have been recovered by the FIA and fines of Rs932 million have been imposed by the courts in these cases in the last three years.
In money-laundering cases, properties worth Rs2,128 million have been seized by South Zone. Similarly, in cases of Hundi/ Hawala, Rs1,149 million in cash has been seized.
The number of people who have been awarded punishments is 3,828 in last three years. The convicts have been awarded imprisonment varying from two years to 28 years in these cases.
Abbasi appreciated the working of the FIA South Zone and stressed the need to improve the quality of investigations.
