Multan NAB made Rs3.74 bn recoveries from 2018 to 2020

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau Multan has made indirect recoveries to the tune of Rs 3.74 billion from 2018 to 2020 pertaining to different departments under federal and provincial governments.

NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal chaired a meeting to review the performance of the NAB Multan, especially convictions made under Section 10 of the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999 and under Section 25 (B) of NAO 1999 from 2018 to 2020 at the NAB Headquarters, which was attended Deputy Chairman NAB Hussain Asghar, Prosecutor General Accountability Syed Asghar Haider and other senior officers while DG NAB Multan Nauman Aslam participated in the meeting via video link.

During the meeting, Nauman Aslam informed that from 2018 to 2020, the NAB Multan filed 82x references in the Accountability Court Multan. During the said period, 22x accused were convicted under Section 10 of the NAO 1999 and recovered fine to the tune of Rs 306.38 million. The DG NAB Multan informed that during the said period, the NAB Multan made indirect recoveries to the tune of Rs 3748.1 million pertaining to different departments under federal and provincial governments. He said that besides nabbing the culprits, the NAB efforts resulted in retrieval of misappropriated state lands belonging to Board of Revenue (BOR), Irrigation Department and Local Government Department. He told the meeting that in the case of disbursement of loans amongst public by the government of Punjab through National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), the bureau ensured recovery of Rs 502.6 million from NRSP. A lion’s share of the indirect recoveries approximately to the tune of Rs 2,518 million was related to the housing sector.

He told the meeting that the NAB Multan took cognizance of the matter under its prevention regime that ultimately resulted in execution of development works, provision of basic amenities and submission of all government dues and fees, etc. He said the total direct and indirect recoveries were Rs 4,398.45 million including convictions u/s 10 & 25(B) of the NAO 1999.

Javed Iqbal appreciated the performance of the NAB Multan under the supervision of Nauman Aslam and hoped that the NAB Multan will continue to perform in the future with the same commitment.
