OKARA: Two criminals were killed in an encounter with police near Basirpur Town on Monday night.
Police signalled two motorcyclists for checking but they opened fire on them. Police also retaliated. As a result, the two motorcyclists were killed on the spot. Police also recovered a Kalashnikov and a rifle from the spot. The killed motorcyclists were later identified as dacoits Khalid Pervaiz alias Peji and his brother Aamir Hussain alias Amba. The bodies were shifted to the DHQ Hospital for autopsy. They were wanted by police in several cases. Aamir was also wanted by police in the killing of ASI Shoaib Ahmad about a year ago.
On Tuesday, the family and relatives of the deceased brothers staged a demonstration outside the press club. The protesters burnt tyres and chanted slogans against police. The protesters also pelted a police van with stones. After sometime, the protesters went to the DHQ Hospital and demanded police to hand over the bodies to them. Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that the deceased brothers were involved in drug pushing, dacoity and other cases. He said that the family staged demonstrations to cover their crimes. He, however, said that police would hold a judicial inquiry.
