The recent incident in the NA speaks volumes about our elected representatives and their priorities. Never have they ever spoke for their constituents’ rights with such energy. It is unfortunate that politics in Pakistan has been reduced to personalities – where a party leader and his/her interests are ardently defended. On matters that directly affect the people, these people, who fiercely defend their leaders, observe complete silence. The people of the country should also share the blame for what we are witnessing today – these lawmakers have been elected by us. Party leaders need to show some maturity. They must take action against those members who disrespected the NA. It is time we shunned uncivilised practices and adopted basic decency.
