NOWSHERA: Awami National Party (ANP) leader Wali Muhammad Khan who died due to cardiac arrest was laid to rest in his village Misri Banda on Tuesday.His Nimaz-e-Janaza was offered at Misri Banda and largely attended. Maulana Anwarul Haq Haqqani, Administrator of Darul Uloom Haqqania, led the funeral prayers.
ANP leaders Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, Senator Shahi Syed and district nazim Liaquat Khattak, Pakistan People’s Party’s Liaquat Shabab and Pir Zulfiqar Bacha, JUI-F’s Mufti Shaukatullah and other politicians and local elders were among those who attended the funeral prayers.
Wali Muhammad Khan was born in 1934 in Misri Banda. He started his political career in 1960 by contesting for the chairmanship of the union council. He was elected member of the provincial assembly on the National Awami Party ticket in the 1970 general election and was made advisor to chief minister Maulana Mufti Mahmood in the NAP-JUI coalition government.
Wali Muhammad Khan was elected senator in 1976. He defeated former interior minister Nasirullah Khan Babar of the PPP in the 1977 elections for the National Assembly seat from Nowshera.
He is survived by his widow and six children. He was father of Pervez Ahmed Khan, a former MPA, Dr Kamal Ahmed Khan and Riaz Ahmed Khan.
