A businessman was gunned down in an apparently targeted attack in District Malir of Karachi on Wednesday. The Al-Falah police said the incident took place near Jamia Millia, where unidentified assailants opened fire on the victim’s car.
Officials said the man was killed on the spot, adding that after receiving information of the attack, police and rescuers took the deceased to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
Police said the victim was identified as Raza Zulfiqar, 32, a resident of the same area who ran his business of cement blocks. Officials said that according to their initial investigation, armed motorcyclists had been following him, and then attacked him when they got an opportunity.
Police said the shell casings of a 9mm pistol have been recovered from the crime scene and sent to the forensic division of the Sindh police for ballistics cross-matching, adding that they are also trying to get CCTV camera footage to identify the suspects.
Officials said the incident may have been an act of target killing, adding that the father of the deceased is a former union council councillor affiliated with the Jamaat-e-Islami. Police said the victim also had a daughter, adding that his funeral prayers were offered near his residence after the Isha prayers, following which he was laid to rest at a local graveyard.
