ISLAMABAD: Hurriyat leaders have strongly condemned the killings of civilians by Indian forces in the Sopore town of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families.
According to the Kashmir Media Service, three people were killed in random firing of Indian forces’ personnel at the Aarampora locality of Sopore town on Saturday. The incident triggered a forceful anti-India protest in the area.
Hurriyat leader, Javaid Mir, addressing condolence gatherings at Dangarpora, Panzeenora in Baramulla district and Rainawari in Srinagar deplored the “targeting” of civilian population of Kashmir’s Muslim majority territory.
Another Hurriyat leader, Jahangir Butt, in a statement said the killings in Sopore were “grave human rights violations” and “against the basic Charter of the United Nations human rights values”.
Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement Vice Chairman, Abdul Majeed Malik, Vice Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Pir Panjal Freedom Movement, Qazi Imran and Kashmiri journalist and convener of People’s Association, Khalid Shabbir, in a joint statement strongly condemned the “fresh killing spree” in occupied Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir Tehreek-e-Istaqlal Vice Chairman, Mushtaq Butt and Youth Wing Chairman, Tanveer Durrani in a joint statement said India wanted to suppress the liberation movement through such “cheap tactics” but would never succeed in its nefarious designs.
