SUKKUR: Sindh Assembly lawmaker Farrukh Shah, son of Pakistan Peoples Party leader and former National Assembly opposition leader Syed Khurshid Shah, was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from an accountability court on Saturday.
According to Geo News, the arrest came days after Farrukh Shah applied for pre-arrest bail in the Supreme Court in an assets-beyond-means case, on which the apex court ordered Farrukh to surrender before the accountability court within three days.
Following the Supreme Court’s order, Farrukh Shah appeared before the court of Third Additional and Sessions Judge Sukkur, where he was arrested. Farrukh’s lawyer said his client fully cooperated with the NAB in the investigation and that the NAB had conceded in the Supreme Court that the investigation had been completed. “When the investigation is completed, what is the need for arrest?” The NAB prosecutor claimed the Supreme Court had ordered the accused to surrender to the NAB but the accused surrendered in the court instead of the NAB investigation team. He alleged that the accused was not cooperating with the investigation team since the beginning.
Later, the Sessions Court ordered the arrest of Farrukh Shah, on which the NAB team took him into custody from the court. The NAB also requested the court to remand the accused to them for 15 days.
Syed Farrukh Shah was elected as a Member of the Sindh Assembly from PS-24 Sukkur-3 on a PPP ticket in the 2018 general elections.
