GUJRANWALA: Prolonged power outages in the city and its surrounding areas have made the lives of people miserable.
The people are depressed and mentally disturbed due to the power outages. The water supply also remains suspended during the power loadshedding, adding to the problems of the people.
The worst affected areas include Farid Town, Alam Chowk, Alipur Chattha, Sialkot Road, Jinnah Road, Dhulley, Shaheenabad, Fattomand and Aroop. The citizens said that the Gepco is conducting up to eight hours unannounced loadshedding.
Due to the power outages in these areas, small and medium-sized industries are suffering in terms of productivity. The citizens have demanded the high-ups take notice of the situation and end the unannounced loadshedding. When contacted, a Gepco spokesman said that the loadshedding is being carried out only in those areas where power lines are being replaced. Some areas are facing power outages due to faults in distribution lines and high tension wires, he added.
CONSTRUCTIVE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA: Commissioner Zulfiqar Ahmad Ghumman has said that positive and constructive use of social media can make the government institutions more dynamic and active for solving the public and social problems. The commissioner expressed these views during a meeting with the representatives of the Social Media Association Gujranwala here.
He said that we must use this powerful medium of communication for national development and brotherhood in the country. New projects worth billions of rupees were being launched under the different development programmes of the Punjab and federal governments, which would significantly improve the social sectors in the entire division and the solve longstanding public problems, he added. The commissioner further said that a series of special and far-reaching strategic initiatives had also been initiated for the promotion of industrial and economic activities in the golden triangle comprising the districts of Gujranwala, Gujrat and Sialkot to further expand, improve and create innovate employment opportunities.
