Siraj for practical steps to carry Karachi operation to its logical end
LAHORE
Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Senator Sirajul Haq Monday welcomed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s stated resolve to carry Karachi operation to its logical end but added that this must be reflected by the practical measures of the government.
In a statement, Sirajul Haq said the nation should be informed of the actions so far taken against target killers and those involved in heinous crimes. He said federal and provincial governments must be on one page to ensure success of the operation. JI chief said Prime Minister should also talk of controlling corruption and bringing the corrupt to the dock. At the same time, the premier should disown those who have plundered public money and deposited in banks abroad, and also pledge to bring back his family’s wealth from abroad to the country.
Sirajul Haq said the cancer of corruption had engulfed all state institutions and the culture of bribe and Safarish had ruined the working of the entire government but the rulers were not giving any attention to the menace. Due to that, the common man had serious complains against the government and semi-government institutions. If government could control the plunder to the tune of Rs 40 billion per annum and cut its unnecessary spending, the working of the institutions could be improved and a huge amount could be made available for public health and education. In this way, the country could be freed from the shackles of the MF and the World Bank.
JI chief said the PML-N government had already spent half of its tenure but there was no headway in the fulfillment of election promises. On the other hand, difficulties of general public were increasing. Loadshedding was continuing even during the month of December, he said and added if the government was serious in checking line losses and electricity theft, it should announce stringent punishments for electricity theft and the big power thieves in the ranks of the government should also be brought to book.
Senator Sirajul Haq said there was talk of rigging even in regard to Lodhran by-election but the Election Commission had so far, not acted upon the recommendations of the Parliamentary party on this score nor had there been any activity that could show that the PEC had any plans in his respect.
He said the inaction by the Election Commission despite repeated complaints only proved that the PEC was deliberately fleeing from its responsibility.
