ISLAMABAD: The government has transferred Wajid Zia from the office of Director General, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and appointed Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Sanaullah Abbasi, a 22-grade PSP officer, as FIA chief with immediate effect.
Wajid Zia was appointed DG FIA in November 2019 after the removal of Bashir Memon. The Federal Cabinet has approved the summary to transfer Wajid Zia through circulation, the Establishment Division sources said Wednesday.
According to the sources, Commandant of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) Moazzam Jah Ansari has replaced Sanaullah Abbasi as the IG KP while Salahuddin has been appointed as the Inspector General FC.
Wajid Zia got fame when he headed the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the Panama Papers Case in 2017 involving former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and which eventually caused Nawaz Sharif’s ouster from the office of prime minister. Wajid Zia also served as the Inspector General of Pakistan Railways Police.
Sources said that after the removal from the office of FIA chief, Wajid Zia has now been appointed at the National Police Bureau.
“The prime minister is pleased to transfer the DG FIA into the Police Service of Pakistan and appoint Sanaullah Abbasi as the new Director General of the FIA,” said a statement by PM’s House mentioning the notification.
