Three more mugging victims suffer gunshot wounds
The situation of street crime in Karachi that has apparently been worsening with every passing day has resulted in three more people being wounded by trigger-happy muggers.
Police on Wednesday said 22-year-old Hassan Ali, son of Javed Iqbal, was shot during an attempt to mug him in Korangi. They said he was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
Officials also said 36-year-old Farhat Hussain, son of Khuda Bakhsh, was shot during an attempt to mug him in Ibrahim Hyderi. They said he was taken to the JPMC. The Pakistan Bazaar police said Karim Saeed, 40, was shot during an attempt to mug him in Orangi Town. They said he was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH).
On Tuesday four people had suffered gunshot wounds, a man had shot a mugger dead and Rs10 million had been looted in different incidents of robberies. The Gulistan-e-Jauhar police said Hadia Mehmood, 18, was shot near Safoora Chowrangi for resisting an attempt to mug her. They said she was taken to the JPMC.
The Korangi Industrial Area police said Gul Hassan Salahuddin, 45, was shot near Mehran Town for resisting an attempt to mug him. They said he was taken to the JPMC. The SITE B Section police said Irfan, 26, was shot in their jurisdiction for resisting an attempt to mug him. They said he was taken to the ASH.
In yet another incident, a man named Rafiq was shot in the New Karachi neighbourhood for resisting an attempt to mug him. He was taken to the ASH. Following the incident, a large number of people gathered on the spot and managed to catch both the suspects involved. The crowd beat them up badly before handing them over to the police.
Meanwhile, the Gulberg police said some suspects were trying to rob people who had withdrawn cash from an ATM near Tahir Villa Chowrangi, but the private bank’s security guard shot at them.
Officials said the firing caused the suspects to back off, but as they were trying to escape, a man in a car shot at them as well and managed to injure one of them. Police said the injured was taken to the ASH, where he died during treatment, adding that he was identified as Junaid, but his accomplice had managed to flee.
