PESHAWAR: The Water and Sanitation Services, Peshawar, on Tuesday started vaccination of 4500 sanitary staff against Covid-19.

Over 250 sanitary workers were vaccinated on the first day while the remaining would be administered vaccines this week, said an official communique.

The zonal managers have prepared lists of staff under their supervision that were shared with the deputy commissioner office for provision of vaccine shots.

Manager Human Resources Saqib Nawaz has been appointed as focal person to coordinate with district administration in this regard.

Spokesperson for WSSP, Hassan Ali said that sanitary workers have been working on the frontline since the outbreak of the pandemic who were exposed to Covid-19.

“Although, the company has procured personal protection equipment for its field staff at the start of the pandemic but vaccination is must to protect them against the pandemic,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) has launched a 14-day sanitation campaign that will focus on localities previously neglected due to inaccessibility.

The campaign has been started initially in four union councils, which include Tehkal, Landi Arbab, Paharipura and Shaheen Muslim Town. It will be extended later to all union councils.

The Operation Department has constituted special teams that will work in two shifts. The teams have started cleaning narrow drains and accessing points that could not be cleaned due to inaccessibility in the past.

They are visiting markets and shops, urging shopkeepers to use biodegradable bags for packing waste and place them outside their shops instead of throwing them on roads, streets or drains.

General Manager (Operations) Engr Riaz Ahmad Khan, General Manager (Planning and Monitoring) Syed Zameeul Hassan, zonal managers and other officials monitored the sanitation operation.
