LAHORE: Majlis Wahdat Muslemin (MWM) leaders have threatened to observe a token sit-in outside the Punjab Auqaf Department on June 25 if their demands are not fulfilled.
Fake cases were being lodged against Shia workers and Shia members in Muttahida Ulema Board were reduced by 50 per cent, said MWM Punjab General Secretary Allama Abdul Khaliq Asadi while addressing a press conference on Monday. He said mourning activities and supporting Palestinians are the rights of the Shia community. He alleged that under the garb of COVID-19 SOPs, the Punjab administration has been displaying a biased attitude towards the Shia community, registering FIRs against Shias for taking out rallies in favour of the Palestinians. He said the number of Shia scholars in the Ulema Board was reduced to half compared to Deobandi and Ahl-e-Sunnat Barelvi communities.
He alleged that an extremist person was appointed chairman of the Ulema Board. He appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and the secretary Auqaf to address these complaints, otherwise a token sit-in will be held on June 25 outside the Auqaf Department. He alleged that false cases are being registered against Shia mourners in Chiniot at the behest of Chiniot's extremist MPA and DPO, despite the talks with Law Minister Raja Basharat to stop this practice.
