Police on Monday claimed engaging in a shootout with drug peddlers in the Essa Nagri neighbourhood, during which they killed a man and arrested two others.
Officials said they raided the den of Naeem Shah, a notorious drug peddler, but the suspects shot at them to try to escape, and one of the suspects was killed in the resultant shootout. They said the body of the deceased was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was identified as 30-year-old Naeem Shah, son of Haider Ali.
They claimed to have arrested his father Haider Ali and his accomplice named Ali, as well as recovered crystal meth and weapons from their possession. Police said the deceased hailed from Mardan and was a resident of the Old Sabzi Mandi area in Karachi, adding that several cases of attempted murder, shootout with the police, and possession of drugs and illegal weapons were registered against him.
