CM says govt committed to developing police infrastructure

PESHAWAR: Expressing his commitment to improving police infrastructure in the province, Khyber Pakhtun-khwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan directed the authorities concerned to design an umbrella scheme for inclusion in the upcoming Annual Development Programme the re-construction and rehabilitation of the decades-old police stations.

Chairing a meeting regarding development projects of the police department here, he said that projects included in the scheme would be executed in phases so that police infrastructure could be developed on modern lines across the province.

He added that eradication of crimes and provision of a secure and peaceful environment to the public was one of the top priorities of his government.

Administrative secretary of the Finance Department, high ups of the Planning and Development Department, representatives of Home Department and other relevant senior officials attended the meeting, said a handout.

The forum was briefed in detail about the issues and development projects of the police department. It was told that a total of 18 schemes of police department were being executed across the province with an estimated cost of over Rs7.5 billion, adding that sub projects of said schemes included establishment of nine police lines, 31 police stations, four police posts, seven CTD offices, three training schools, eight watch towers and 3 hostels. The forum was apprised that for setting up police infrastructure in newly merged districts, work on two new projects worth Rs8 billion was underway. It was added that for the establishment of police stations, and police checkposts work on more than 50 sub projects was also in progress.

The meeting was told that Rs 200 million had been released for purchase of land to set up police stations in newly merged districts.

A total of Rs1.267 billion were allocated for training of merged districts police. As much as Rs406 million have been spent on training of police officials so far.

The chief minister said that the provincial government was spending huge resources on the development of police infrastructure and enhancing the capacity of police.

Chief minister asked authorities concerned to pay special attention to establishment of police infrastructure in newly merged districts and ensure progress on projects as per given timelines.
