Govt asked to address problems of Peshawar women hostel
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Social Welfare Dr Hisham Inamullah has issued instructions to address the problems of the Working Women Hostel at Hayatabad.
He narrated that the women living in the hostel will also have to pay their arrears so that the hostel management can run smoothly. Dr Hisham took note of the statements published in newspapers regarding the Working Women Hostel in Hayatabad and directed the Social Welfare Department to resolve all the grievances.
Director Department of Social Welfare Habib Afridi said that after the approval of the cabinet, they maintained SOPs, under which the hostel is being run. The room rent is fixed for government employees and every room is allotted to two girls. He said that accommodation has been arranged but some of the women living in hostels occupy the same room and do not pay the rent in full.
Similarly, those who use air conditioners in hostel rooms have to pay their electricity bill but some of the women residents of the hostel also refuse to pay their bills. The director social welfare said that in such cases, the hostel management is burdened with extra expenses in case of unnecessary bills.
He also said the department was working for uninterrupted supply of electricity but cooperation is required on both sides. Dr Hisham said that the government would take all necessary measures to facilitate the compromised segments of society including women. He said Working Women Hostels are for the convenience of working women and with an aim to facilitate them.
