ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmad on Friday said that the government will take elaborate steps to improve security in the federal capital and more resources would be provided to Islamabad police for this purpose.
In a video message, the minister pledged to make Islamabad city safer in the days to come. In wake of some incidents in the federal capital, he said that elaborate measures would be ensured for the safety of the citizens.
Sharing more details about the steps taken to improve the law and order situation in the city, he said currently, eagle squads have only four mobile vans, while 16 more would be added soon in this budget. Rashid said one hundred and fifty mobile eagle squads would be attached with a safe city project to make Islamabad a safe zone.
“These squads will keep a check on the city with the help of the Safe City and a wireless system,” he added. The federal capital is connected with Punjab and KP and the government would make it a safe zone while important steps would be ensured during this week, he maintained.
Over firing incident in Islamabad last night in which two head constables Syed Bashir Shah and Muhammad Ishtiaq embraced martyrdom, the interior minister said the number of police martyrs in the capital has reached nine during the tenure of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
The minister paid tributes to those who sacrificed their lives for the country and for the restoration of peace. He said the government is trying to ensure Pakistan’s borders are safe and will introduce an electronic management system in this regard.
The minister said that border fencing with Afghanistan would be completed in two months’ time, adding that 88% percent work on the fencing has been completed. Sheikh Rashid said the border fencing with Iran would also, be completed by the end of this year. -APP
Our correspondent from Islamabad adds:Funeral prayer of two martyrs of Islamabad police, killed in firing of unknown persons in Industrial Zone was held at Police Lines Headquarters here on Friday.
Head constables Ishtiaq Ranjha and Syed Bashir Shah were on a routine patrolling when unknown assailants opened fire on them in Shams Colony police station area of the Industrial Zone in the federal capital on Thursday night, leaving them dead on the spot.
A case has been registered at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The IGP has constituted a team under the supervision of DIG (Operations) Afzaal Ahmed Kousar.
The team led by SSP (Investigation) would probe the incident and help arrest the culprits, according to the officials. Head Constable Ishtiaq Ranjha belonged to Wajidhi, Bhera district Sargodha while Head Constable Syed Bashir Shah hailed from Malikyal, Haripur.
Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad, Qazi Jamil ur Rehman, DG (Rangers), SSP (Operations) Dr. Syed Mustafa Tanweer, families of the martyred officials and senior police officers and officials besides traders and civil society representatives joined the prayer.
A smartly turned-out contingent of the police presented a guard of honour to the martyrs. The IGP shouldered the coffins and later the dead bodies were sent to the respective native towns of the martyrs.
