MULTAN: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman Thursday said Pakistan People’s Party’s leaving the opposition alliance damaged democracy in the country, and it could rejoin it after admitting to its mistake.

Talking to the media here at Jamia Qasimul Aloom, he said the doors were open on the PPP in the wide interest of democracy. He said the common man should decide that the PDM was their voice or a party which had bracketed itself to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

The Maulana said the nation had united against the illegal and unjustified government and the PDM had become the voice of masses. The political parties were wasting their energies by struggling beyond the PDM, Fazl added. He regretted that the opposition parties were indulging in mudslinging against the PDM, which was very painful.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the PTI government could not be toppled without collective resignations from assemblies by all parliamentarians of the opposition parties.

To a question Fazl said: “We have relationship with the party, not with personalities. Be it Maryam Nawaz or Shehbaz Sharif, both are one party.”

He said the PDM was going to launch a mass contact campaign and the first public meeting was scheduled for July 4 in Swat, and it would be a historic event. The second public meeting was scheduled for Karachi, he added.
