830,244 cubic feet of silt removed from storm drains in one week, says LG secy

During the one-week cleaning operation of storm water drains, the Sindh local government department said, 830,244 cubic feet of silt from drains had been shifted to landfill sites.

Sindh Local Government Syed Najam Ahmad Shah said in a statement that efforts of the department for the cleaning of storm water drains and finding a permanent solution to the garbage issue had started to pay off. He added that as a result of just one week's operation, a total of 830,244 cubic feet of silt collected from the various storm water drains of the city had been transferred to landfill sites and the whole process was under continuous monitoring.

According to Shah, in seven days, 251,397 cubic feet of garbage was collected from District South, 274,976 cubic feet from District West, 22,980 cubic feet from the rainwater drains of District East, 237,082 cubic feet from District Central and 18,223 cubic feet from District Malir.

He said that 25,586 cubic feet of waste had been transferred from District Korangi to landfill sites. Sharing details of landfill sites, the local government secretary said that 303,870 cubic feet of silt had been delivered to the landfill site of Jam Chakro and 526,374 cubic feet to the landfill site of Gond Pass.

Shah said that all the members of the committee set up for the process of cleaning the storm drains were fulfilling their responsibilities with utmost diligence and sincerity and the ground monitoring and critical vigilance was going on continuously.

He clarified that the process of widening and cleaning storm drains would continue without any fear or favour so that the residents of the city would not face any inconvenience or trouble in the future. Shah vowed that making Karachi a world class metropolitan city was the mission of local government department.
