JHANG: Following sugarcane growers complaints, the district administration has started action against weigh stations/bridges involved in less measurement of sugarcane in and outside sugar mills.
In a statement here on Wednesday, DCO Nadir Chattha said the assistant commissioners of Jhang, Shorkot, Ahmadpur Sial and 18-Hazari sealed seven weigh bridges which were found involved in less measurement of sugarcane in different parts of the district. He said measurement scales of different weigh stations were found faulty and 13 FIRs had been registered. He said four persons were illegally purchasing sugarcane from growers less than the rate fixed by the government. He said weigh station of a local sugar mill, which was sealed, had been de-sealed on the assurance of the mill management for accurate measurement in future.
Meanwhile, the DCO has banned establishment of illegal weigh stations the district till January 2, 2016.
Office-bearers of a farmers association said that the growers preferred to sell their crop on cash payment at weigh stations. They alleged that the millers had been delaying payment to growers for the last two years.
