The PM House has denied reports in the media about US officials holding a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to brief him about alleged links between Tashfeen Malik, Syed Farook and the head cleric of Lal Masjid, Maulana Abdul Aziz. Even if this link proves to be untrue, Lal Masjid has been a source of many problems in the past for Pakistan. But instead of countering Maulana Abdul Aziz’s narrative of hatred with a counter-narrative of inclusiveness and tolerance, the government has given the cleric ample space which he is encroaching.
We need to take action against all centres of hatred which openly or discreetly encourage their followers to take arms against their fellow countrymen.
