The Anti-Car Lifting Cell Karachi in raids in Korangi and Malir on Tuesday arrested two men suspected of involvement in a robbery at the Edhi Home in Kharadar last year. They were found in possession of five kilogrammes of gold.
ACLC SSP Irfan Ali Bahadur said his some suspects had been arrested earlier but the main culprit, Umair Shah, had escaped to Dubai.
He added that police were tipped off that Shah had return to Karachi from Dubai a few days and living in a house in Korangi.
An ACLC team conducted a raid and Shah. During interrogation, Shah said he along with his associates had committed the robbery at the Edhi Home.
He further disclosed that before leaving for Dubai, he had left the gold he had robbed with his friend, Jaam Akhtar, who lived in Malir. When he ran out of the looted money in his possession, he returned to the city.
The SSP said police conducted a raid in Malir and arrested Akhtar. He was found in possession of five kilogrammes of gold.
Four ‘TTP men’ held
The Sindh police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Tuesday claimed to have arrested four members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in a raid in Ittehad Town.
Ali Raza, in-charge of the CTD’s Anti-Sectarian Intelligence Group, said that on a tip-off, a raid was conducted in Ittehad Town and, after a shootout, four suspects were taken into custody.
He identified the men as Irshad Gul, Latifur Rehman, Naik and Faisal Khan and said they belonged to the banned TTP Swati Group. The suspects were arrested along with a Kalahsnikov and three TT pistols and Raza claimed they were involved several murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping for ransom and extortion cases.
He added that their group leader, Taj Mallok, had been killed in a recent police encounter in District West and these suspects had managed to escape in the shootout.
