KARACHI: England’s top boxer Amir Khan landed here on Sunday to witness the finals of All Pakistan Amir Khan Boxing tournament at the Peoples Sports Complex on Monday (today).
“Yes, we have specifically come here to witness the finals,” Amir’s uncle Tahir Mehmood told ‘The News’ soon after landing here at the Jinnah International Airport.
During his visit to Lyari, Amir will also inaugurate the Sindh Sports Board (SSB) Under-14 boxing camp and will give tips to the kids.
The organisers of the event are making best possible arrangements for the finals which begin at 2:30pm.
Event coordinator Asghar Baloch told this correspondent that Amir would reach the venue by 4:30pm.
Amir, who had arrived in Islamabad on December 18, is also expected to work further on his projects of a boxing academy and AK Trust, for which he had visited the port city in August this year.
He is also expected to meet some influential people of the Sindh government and corporate sector.
Amir is also accompanied by his wife Faryal Makhdoom, daughter Lamaisah Khan, father Shajjad Khan and his younger brother Haroon Khan.
This is the second visit of former Pakistan light flyweight boxer Haroon to Karachi. He came five years back after he won bronze medal on his international debut for Pakistan in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.
Amir also visited Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, and donated computers to students of three schools there. “Had an amazing experience in visiting schools in Kashmir and gave computers, books and support to them all,” Amir tweeted on Saturday.
