Cleanliness drive kicks off in Chitral

CHITRAL: The ‘cleanliness week’ kicked off here on Sunday to make the city neat and clean and create awareness about the benefits of hygiene, sanitation and uncontaminated environment.

Deputy Commissioner Osama Ahmad Warraich, Commandant Chitral Scouts Colonel Nizamuddin Shah, elected representatives and heads of various government departments and civil society organisations inaugurated the drive by participating in the cleanliness. Earlier, a ceremony was held about the cleanliness week at the auditorium of Government High School where a large number of people attended.

Later, the participants held a walk from the Government High School to the District Headquarters Hospital to create awareness about the cleanliness among the people. DC Osama Warraich, Colonel Nizamuddin Shah, District Nazim Maghfirat Shah and others cleaned the roads and streets and lifted the garbage.

They said that a comprehensive plan would be chalked out for the cleanliness of Chitral and the surrounding localities. They said that stern action would be taken against those who were contaminating Chitral River and other streams of fresh water by throwing garbage and dirt into them. The officials said that concerted steps would also be taken for luring the visitors and tourists to the scenic spots of the district.
