Three more upsets in boxing tournament

KARACHI: Three more upsets were seen as the quarter-finals of All Pakistan Amir Khan Boxing tournament completed here at the People’s Sports Complex’s Ustad Abdullah Baloch boxing gymnasium on Friday.

In the 60kg quarter-final, Qadir Khan inflicted an upset defeat on highly experienced Adnan Hassan of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) after a tough encounter. In another quarter-final of 60 kg category, Shahid Afridi of Sindh Greens, playing for the first time in any major event, outgunned experienced Sajid Farman of Rangers.

In the 81kg, Wali Khan Tareen of Sindh Greens shocked discarded international Dur Mohammad to move into the semi-finals.

Six boxers each from Army and Navy, five each from Sindh Greens, Balochistan and PAF made it to the semi-finals.

Rangers’ four boxers have moved into the next phase. The semi-finals will be held on Saturday (today).
