KARACHI: The Federal Anti-Corruption Court (FACC) here on Thursday confirmed the bail pleas of former premier and a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in nine cases.
Former federal law minister, Farooq H Naik, who is the counsel for Gilani, was also present in the court. As Gilani along with Naik reached the court, the workers of the PPP chanted slogans in favour of former prime minister. The court expressed its displeasure and ordered the workers to go out if they were interested in raising slogans. The attorney for Gilani (Farooq H Naik) drew the attention of the court toward a legal point that in almost all 23 cases against Gilani and others, the FIA had repeated a single allegation and filed 23 charge sheets that was contrary to law. He prayed to the court to pass orders for holding an inquiry on the issue of preparing 23 identical charge sheets.
Gilani and PPP leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim (whose name has been deleted after his death), along with certain former and serving officials of TDAP, were booked for their alleged involvement in the approval and disbursement of fraudulent trade subsidies worth billions of rupees to several fake companies through fictitious claims and backdated cheques during the PPP’s latest tenure at the centre.
