Bollywood star Aamir Khan was recently subjected to extreme criticism in India for his comments on the prevailing intolerance in the country. Though most Pakistanis are enjoying what he said about his country, it is also true that the same concern can be raised about our own society. If someone from our country had said the same thing, the reaction would have been similar. The state of intolerance that we, ourselves, are drowned in is no different. Just like India’s political history, ours is also filled with intolerance.
It is about time we started analysing ourselves and our role in society. If we are not open and receptive to positive criticism then we will never be able to progress and grow as a nation. By creating an environment of tolerance, we can provide a safe space in which everyone can thrive.
