LAHORE
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq said the Sindh chief minister’s statement on corruption was a confessional statement of an approver and he had acted as a true spokesman for status quo forces by speaking his heart out.
Addressing a meeting of JI central committees at Mansoora on Saturday, he said corruption could be wiped out only by laying hand on the big fish. He said the palaces of big plunderers could be seen by all and sundry but somehow the NAB could not locate them. He said country’s resources had been plundered by the rich and not the poor. The JI chief said the month of December had always ominous for the country and this year, the finance minister had burdened the masses with additional taxes worth Rs 40 billion. He said those occupying high state and government offices were cheating the nation by using their official positions for personal gains. He said the rulers in Islamabad felt the inferiority complex against the US and Europe but they always ignored the plus points of the western people. He said no ruler or government officer in the west ever used his official position for self-aggrandizement or personal business. However, he said, in our country, people sought official status or government office only for expanding personal business.
He said elections in the country would only maintain the status quo until and unless electoral reforms were carried out. He said politics in Pakistan was the game of money and the families presently in politics desired to remain in power and politics by the dint of their wealth. He said politics in the country had no norms and it revolved round personalities whom he termed “Ghanta Ghar” or clock tower.
He said a few Moghul princes and a self-serving group were enjoying the fruit of the hard work of the honest and dedicated political workers and amassing heaps of wealth for their coming generations. The elite class has plunged the homeland into the sea of corruption and lawlessness. He said that incompetent youths of the elite class were posted on high positions in total violation of the rules and merit. He said the JI was striving to create awareness among the masses so that those plundering public money could be brought to book and all ill-gotten money recovered from their bellies.
