Resolution not taken up by Sindh Assembly
KARACHI: Much to the surprise and ire of the opposition party the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, the expected resolution on extending the duration of Rangers’ special anti-terrorism policing powers in Karachi was not presented in the Sindh Assembly for the second day in a row on Friday despite being a part of the legislature’s agenda. The lingering issue of extending the duration of the paramilitary force’s special powers under the Anti-Terrorism Act-1997 that allows it to arrest suspects without a warrant and detain them for 90 days was supposed to be discussed in the House in the ongoing session which started on Thursday.
