Joint efforts needed to end corruption

LAHORE

To mark the International Anti Corruption Day, Virtual University of Pakistan organised a seminar at MA Jinnah Campus to raise awareness among the masses about ill effects of corruption and corrupt practices. 

The renowned columnist Dr Ajmal Niazi, Rauf Tahir, Sajjad Mir, Dr Mehdi Hassan and Sajid Nadeem, Director Financial Crimes Investigation Unit, NAB were the guest speakers who elaborated various aspects of corruption and its cruel effects on society. The event aimed at active involvement of all stakeholders for combating this menace that has unfortunately permeated into different segments of society.

Dr Mehdi Hassan was of the view: “We will have to cap those cavities where the virus of corruption nourished”. 

Sajid Nadeem, Director Financial Crimes Investigation Unit, NAB, summed up the discussion by stressing the need to sensitise all segments of society about the negative effects of corruption and ways and means to overcome it.

In his address, Dr Naveed Rector Virtual University of Pakistan, stressed the need of creating awareness among people in order to end corruption. He was of the view that corruption is a multi-faceted problem and it should be countered an all possible fronts with sincerity. The seminar was attended by a large number of students and faculty members of Virtual University of Pakistan. 

Virtual University’s Character Building Society organised various events and walks with an objective to raise awareness against corruption in all VU campuses across Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Punjab University Hailey College of Commerce organised a walk to create awareness against corruption while Institute of Applied Psychology (IAP) also organised poster competition in this regard. The HCC students were bearing placards, banners and posters inscribed with anti-corruption slogans. A seminar and skit were also organised highlighting the problems created by the menace of corruption in society.
