SUKKUR: A police investigation team, led by AIGP Hyderabad Dr Jameel Ahmed, was constituted to investigate whether the Sukkur Police had shot dead Irfan Jatoi, an alleged student of Sindh University, Jamshoro, in a fake encounter or not, while the parents of the deceased claimed the police probe team has been trying to save their colleagues.

Report said the team visited the crime scene and recorded statements of the Sukkur Police personnel. While talking to media persons, AIGP Dr Jameel said the post mortem report did not give any clue of killing of the deceased in a fake encounter, saying the parents of Irfan Jatoi did not appear before the probe committee, despite various reminders to record their statements. He said the committee has given them the last chance to record their statements up to March 30, so that the matter could be investigated in the right direction.

The AIGP said the deceased had a criminal record and cases in different police stations in Sindh and Punjab. He also said no evidence was found regarding the arrest of Irfan Jatoi. Meanwhile, the parents of deceased, Irfan Jatoi, refused to record their statement, claiming that the probe team has been trying to save their colleagues. Criticising the probe team, they said they have knocked at the court’s doors for getting justice, as they believed the police investigating team could not justify its purpose and demanded a judicial investigation.
