Eight more corona patients die in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: Eight more corona patients died in the district while 117 persons tested positive during the last 24 hours.

A spokesperson for the Health Department said on Tuesday the death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 583 in the district. He said that 1,259 tests for coronavirus were conducted in public and private sectors labs during the same period. He said that so far, 9,199 patients had recovered from the disease while total active cases in Faisalabad had reached 2,013. He said that 550 beds were allocated at the Allied Hospital and 85 at the DHQ Hospital for COVID-19 patients. At present, 131 patients, including 53 confirmed ones, were under treatment at the Allied Hospital while 35, including 12 confirmed, were admitted to DHQ Hospital, he added.

Man drowns in canal: A man drowned in the Gogera Branch Canal in the area of Tandlianwala police station.

Rescue-1122 spokesman said on Tuesday that Bashir Ahmad reportedly jumped into the canal near Sammu Di Jhok for committing suicide. Receiving information, divers of Rescue 1122 rushed to the spot and started search operation but body was still missing in the canal water.

Girl dies as pistol goes off accidentally: A teenager girl died when a pistol went off accidentally in the area of Lundianwala police.

Rescue 1122 spokesman said on Tuesday that 18-year-old Samreen, daughter of Hamid Ali, was busy cleaning a pistol at her house when trigger of the pistol was pushed accidentally. As a result, a bullet present in the chamber of pistol reportedly hit the girl and killed her on the spot. Receiving information, the area police also rushed to the spot and took the body into custody.

Clock Tower illuminated to mark World Tuberculosis Day: The city’s Clock Tower was illuminated with red colour to commemorate the World Tuberculosis Day on Tuesday demonstrating solidarity with TB patients. A simple ceremony was held under the arrangements of the district administration and District Health Authority to create awareness in the masses regarding the disease and draw attention to the potentially disastrous socio-economic consequences on the developing countries. This year’s TB Day is being commemorated with the theme ‘Clock is Ticking’.

Commissioner Saqib Manan and DC Muhammad Ali attended the event as special guests.Provincial TB Control Program Coordinator Dr Saeed Akhtar, CEO Health Dr Bilal Ahmed, ACs Umar Maqbool, Syed Ayub Bukhari, District TB Coordinator Dr Asif Shehzad, Senior Advisor Dr Asif Mehmood, District Coordinator Anti-Infectious Diseases Dr Zulqarnain and other doctors were also present on the occasion. Addressing the event, the commissioner said the TB was a curable disease and it was very important for patients to have a good diet and a healthy environment. He said all precautionary measures should also be taken responsibly to prevent the disease. He said providing the best medical facilities for the treatment of tuberculosis was the top priority where patients suffering from the disease were being provided free diagnosis, treatment and medicines.
