ISLAMABAD: US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin have felicitated President Arif Alvi on Pakistan Day and, in separate messages, spoke of the friendly ties they have with Islamabad.

In his letter to Alvi, Biden said his administration looked forward to strengthening partnership with Pakistan. “Pakistan has long been a close partner of the United States, and it is my great honour to congratulate you and the Pakistani people on your National Day this March 23,” Biden wrote.

The US president said the partnership between the United States and Pakistan was “rooted in shared goals for regional peace and prosperity”. “Through our partnerships,” he said, “we will continue to address common challenges, particularly in regard to our efforts to end the conflict in Afghanistan, fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, and addressing climate change”.

“We look forward to strengthening our partnership in the year ahead,” Biden said. The US president also extended his best wishes to the people of Pakistan.

The Russian Embassy in Pakistan, meanwhile, tweeted on Monday that, “H.E. Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, sent the congratulatory message on the occasion of a national holiday – the Pakistan Day to H.E. Dr. A. Alvi, President of Pakistan, and H.E. Mr. Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan.”

The Russian foreign ministry on Tuesday tweeted: “Pakistan is respected on the global stage as an independent state playing a significant role in regional and international issues. We congratulate our Pakistani friends and wish them peace, prosperity and well-being!”.
