Islamabad: Institute of Strategic Studies held a virtual meeting with its research faculty to commemorate Pakistan Day here Wednesday.
In his opening remarks, Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhary, Director-General, said that we must celebrate our identity and freedom although we live in an interdependent world. However, he said, we do not see a country where we have achieved sufficient progress. He said that citizens must innovate and have inclusive governance systems, as a lack of these is a hindrance in the way of progress. He continued that the political system of the country is dominated by the elite which makes the citizens disempowered.
Poor governance system both at the central and provincial level, systemic unfairness, lack of rule of law, lack of meritocracy, a lack of resolve, and introspection were some of the reasons pointed out by the research faculty for the lack of progress. Among others, the lack of parallel justice systems, a lack of will, and the need for institutional reforms were identified as being of primary importance.
